Community Call to Action: Ensuring Teviot’s Safety and Cleanliness

Teviot Action Group asks Cllr Iqbal Hossain for help with the following:

Teviot garage side car parking signage and across the estate

Poplar Harca had parking signs put up along the garage side of Teviot and across the estate;  they were sprayed with black paint  and at the back of the mosque.

They have recently had them changed at a cost to the residents for this criminal damage.

The police  informed  that it must be reported to the landlord; the first thing we, myself and the residents have done. The new signs are washable.

And it will be removed  but this costs time and labour. I know that the police are busy but I personally think that there are CCTV on the estate that the police could ask to see in the hope of catching the perpetrator.  Could you look into this please as it is causing the residents anxiety because the parking is ignored and out of control and many of the cars that are parked here, the owners do not live here but we are hoping that PCM will have an effect when the signs are cleaned

Telephone box Teviot outside 177 Teviot St E14 6PY

The BT telephone box out side the shops has been totally wrecked it is often used for urinating in and users often do their drugs inside at all times of the day and night and sometimes they are often asleep inside after taking their drugs;  there is no phone in it and its smelling badly. There is a primary school outside and I am sure you have been there often. Manorfield’s  little children are often seeing this take place  as they go to and from school. I would be grateful if you could get the box removed for a safer community for all.

Dangerous Trees facing the A12

In 1972 when Teviot was built and  was one of the first to move in  the council Tower Hamlets  put in trees on top of the garages  facing the A12

And very close to the motorway and now they are as enormous  taller than the  lampposts that line the road  and have grown out of control with the bad weather that we have had the branches fall of and hit the pedestrians on the pedestrian path along the A12 but also have started to fall on the motorway this is very dangerous for the many cars that use the A12 and sooner or later I feel they will cause a mighty crash. Winter is going to approach and  I would ask  you to give this priority attention and get them cut and pruned back.

History of Teviot Action Group TAG

Founded in 1998 the Teviot Action Group started as it meant to go on continue, by tackling head on the sense of isolation from the mainstream East London life. Shops, Clinics, Hospitals, Train Station, Entertainment and Leisure are all too far and what was needed on the Teviot Estate was a new bus route. To everyone’s delight that was exactly what the group delivered as it’s first success.

The Teviot Action Group is a charitable voluntary organisation established in 1998 to offer the community ways of moving forward and changing the quality of life, reducing poverty, decreasing crime, racial tension and regenerating the Teviot Estate.

The organisation is one of it’s kind, offering to build trust and confidence in the community with over 100 volunteers and staff. The Teviot Action Group did some research at grass root level looking into the individual’s needs and profile basic skills were one of the highest priorities along with stress, debt and poverty all as important as one another.

National Archives keep a record of this charity online

Working in partnership, Teviot Action Group has a long history of community engagement.

Many thanks for looking into this and for all you do for our community.
