One crucial aspect to consider is my ability to run away quickly. This is important in case of an unexpected incident. Can my dependents run away quickly too?
Run, hide, tell is a public security technique used in the United Kingdom in the event of a firearms-based terrorist attack1. The technique involves the following steps23:
- Run to a place of safety.
- Hide and barricade yourself in.
- Turn your phone to silent and use only when it is safe to do so.
- Make sure you know the local emergency numbers in the country you are travelling to. For all EU countries call 112.
- Consider the safest options.
- Insist others leave with you, but don’t let their indecision slow you down.
- Leave belongings behind.
- Do not attempt to film the incident.
