Images captured by a video door bell. Incident happened near Chrisp Street market, in a badly lit area with no CCTV around.

The residents’ door camera, is the only evidence of this criminals trying to gain entry to ground floor dwellings. They may knock on your door loudly to create a sense of emergency.

The case was reported to police via 999 who did not attend but gave a CAD number. Tower Hamlets THEO’s advised to keep the area busy to stop prowlers trying to gain entry.

A similar case last year in a block of flats

We certainly do not advise that elderly or vulnerable people go outside at night to stop prowlers in the Neighbourhood.

Those criminals are after your

  • valuables
  • may try to befriend you to use your bank cards
  • try to use your flat for criminal purposes by making out they are your friend
  • rob the place with no care for your well-being.

Under no circumstances open the door to strangers knocking on your door at night.

Set up a calling system with friends or family to check in, especially important for elderly, vulnerable people.
