See Police.uk advice about the dangers and published on 26. September 2025 as students across the country enjoy Freshers week, Minister for Safeguarding and Violence against Women and Girls, Jess Phillips said: “…we are determined to tackle the vile crime of spiking”.

The Metropolitan Police Service is intensifying its efforts to tackle spiking in Greater London, with operations spanning bars, clubs and the capital’s party boats including the use of new vape-spiking equipment.

People, fall victim to spiking inadvertently and don’t realize they have been drugged.
The Crime and Policing Bill of 21. July 2025 declared Spiking a Stand alone offence, which came into effect on 26. September 2025.
Pre 2025 incidences were prosecuted under older statutes, primarily:
- Offences Against the Person Act 1862 (OAPA)
- Sexual Offences Act 2004, if spiking is linked to sexual assault.

Safer Business Alliance
If you are a licensee of an entertainment venue, pub, bar, restaurant, or club, please register with the Safer Business Alliance. They offer free training and refresher training for all your staff.


If you feel unwell in a pub you should alert bar staff and ask for Angela. This is a sign for the bar tender to offer help. This could be
- ordering a taxi
- helping you to leave the venue through another exit
- call an ambulance
- call police
- call a friend to collect you.

A widespread campaign took place in tourist areas of London, to make pub staff aware.
Volunteers as well as police regularly attended many pubs and clubs to speak to bar staff.


Met Police Community Volunteers go on joint patrol with Officers. They visit pubs and clubs. They explain the ‘Ask for Angela’ scheme for victims of Spiking.
To help protect yourself against spiking, you may use a glass topper. Do not leave your glass or drinks container out of sight. Be careful with vapes and food.

Johanna Kaschke sat on a committee to increase Women and Girls’ Safety in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets with regards to Hate Crime, where the issue of spiking in pubs and clubs came to discussion whereby spiking can be used as an act of hate and recommended that all new licensing applications get encouraged to enrol to the free Spiking Awareness training delivered by the Safer Business Network with support from the Mayor of London.


Recommendation R2b “The Council to promote and embed the ‘Ask for Angela’ scheme as a pre-requisite for licensing for venues”.
