The Suzy Lamplugh Trust are delighted to announce that we have partnered with L’Oréal Paris to exclusively bring you the expert-approved “Stand Up Against Street Harassment” international training programme by “Right To Be”. Sessions are thirty minutes and free of charge to attend.
There has been unprecedented demand for bystander training from both the business world and the general public after the tragic case of Sarah Everard. People and organisations want to take steps to address the prevalence of unwanted and aggressive behaviours such as harassment that underly the broader cycle of violence against women and girls, which the Trust has worked on since its inception over three decades ago. This partnership will allow the Trust to fulfil its objective of standing against harassment alongside the wider public.
The scale of harassment and similar unwanted behaviours is significant and the need to educate the public has never been more apparent:
- 80% of women in the UK have reported experiencing harassment in public spaces
- 88% of people in the UK have experienced some form of unwanted behaviour on public transport in the past five years despite reduced footfall during the pandemic, with the most common behaviours being staring, intimidatingly sitting or standing right by someone and verbal abuse.
- 84% of people said it improved the situation when someone intervened.
- 86% of UK witnesses who have intervened reported that their action improved the situation
- 86% of UK respondents say they did not intervene because they do not know what to do
Safer Business Network supports this training that complements the Worker Protection Acy training.

Transport for London has supported this promotion and issued a special leaflet advising travellers that they can call 999 or text their special number 61016 in non emergencies.
TfL works in partnership with the Suzy Lamplugh Trust for training.
TfL is encouraging customers to take a stand, with three simple ways to diffuse a situation and support their fellow travellers, but only if they feel safe to do so:
- Distract the perpetrator by asking the person being targeted an unrelated question, such as, “do you have the time?” or “what’s the next stop?”
- Make note of what has happened and any information about the offender. Report these details to the British Transport Police on 61016 or by using the Railway Guardian App on TfL’s Underground and rail networks. Or if on a bus call the Metropolitan police on 101 or by going online at met.police.uk. In an emergency, always dial 999
- Make sure the victim is okay
